Is Cumberbatch playing Khan?

According to TrekMovie.com he is…

TrekMovie first reported that Benedict Cumberbatch had joined the Star Trek sequel cast, to play a villain and guessed this villain to be Khan Noonien Singh (originally played by Ricardo Montalban). TrekMovie now says they have “confirmed this with a number of sources so we no longer consider it to be a rumor.”  TrekPulse is not so sure.

And, though Leonard Nimoy tries to deny the rumor that he will be seen in Star Trek 2 by dancing around the question, TrekMovie also claims that their sources “have confirmed that Nimoy indeed is back as Spock Prime.”

Lastly TrekMovie has indicated that we will also be seeing Star Trek’s most recognizable adversary in Star Trek 2;  Klingons.  Of course isn’t it also true that where there is Khan there are Klingons?

My money was hoping for something far better than an alternate universe rehash of old tales interspersed with new CGI twists, after all isn’t that why Enterprise failed?  I banked on Orci’s wisdom during an interview with SFX Magazine;

“Introducing a new villain in the sequel is tempting because we now have this incredible new sandbox to play in. On the other hand, some fans really want to see Klingons and it’s hard not to listen to that. The trick is not to do something that’s been seen before just because you think it will be a short cut to likeability.

Remember, until the movie  trailers emerge and we see glimpses of reality, these new spoilers are no more than rumors designed to keep us guessing.
