The latest speculation from the Trek movie world this week was that the new villain in the next Abrams’ Trek reboot would be none other than Khan Noonien Singh (sound familiar!?) and that he will be played by Benicio Del Toro who was recently confirmed as being cast in the next movie as the Trek villain. As the story developed further it appears that the negotiations with Del Toro’s team then broke down over money issues and he has since left the project altogether!

We don’t believe he could EVER pull off as amazing a performance as Ricardo Montalban did in the original Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but with the news that he has left the project will they now be casting someone else in the role? Perhaps he’s just playing hard to get and they’ll chase him round the moons of Nibia, round the Antares maelstrom and round perdition’s flames until he agrees to play the part..? Who knows??! (Sorry we couldn’t help ourselves!)

This news comes via ‘Latino Review‘ naming their source as ‘Vulture‘ who claim their source is highly placed.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one and let you know more. Meanwhile, we’re off to watch Star Trek II to see the REAL Khan!! :)
